Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Settlepaw ("Settlepaw," "we," "us") handles information in connection with the Settlepaw iOS app (the "App"). This policy covers the App only. If settlepaw.no sets cookies or collects information independently of the App, that site carries its own, separate policy.

1. Who we are

Settlepaw is developed by Simonsen Aviation, Gullbekken 7, 2030 Nannestad, Norway. For any question about this policy or your data, contact [support email address].

2. The short version

Settlepaw is built to hold as little of your data as possible. There is no Settlepaw server. Your dog's profile and session history sync only through your own personal iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit framework. We do not operate a database of users, we do not use advertising or analytics SDKs, and we do not sell or share your data with third parties, because there is no mechanism in the App that could do so.

3. Information we process

Onboarding and intake information. When you set up Settlepaw, you provide information about your dog (name, age, breed, and separation-anxiety history) and, optionally, your own contact details. This is stored in Apple's Core Data framework on your device and synced to your personal iCloud account. Settlepaw does not receive a copy of this information on any server we operate.

Session and progress data. Each training session generates a record — duration, timestamps, and a stress-severity score. This data is used to power the App's training recommendations ("the Brain") and is stored and synced the same way as onboarding data: on-device and in your own iCloud, never on a server we control.

Microphone data. If you enable bark detection, the App uses your device's microphone to detect barking during a session. This audio is processed in real time, on your device, to produce a severity signal. It is not recorded, retained, or transmitted anywhere — by us or to any third party — at any point.

Purchase information. Subscriptions and lifetime purchases are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We receive confirmation that you have an active entitlement; we do not receive your payment card number, billing address, or other payment details. Apple's handling of that information is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not this one.

Data you do not give us. Settlepaw has no account-creation system of its own, no advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics SDK, and no ad network integration. There is nothing in the App that tracks you across other apps or websites.

4. Automated recommendations ("The Brain")

Settlepaw generates personalized session plans from the information you provide and your dog's session history. This is an automated process, but it does not produce legal or similarly significant effects on you — it recommends a training exercise, nothing more — so it falls outside the scope of decisions that require special safeguards under GDPR Article 22. The Brain runs entirely on your device.

5. Where your data lives

Everything described above is stored (a) locally on your device, and (b) in your own personal iCloud account via CloudKit, which is subject to Apple's iCloud Terms of Service and Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple acts as our data processor for the purpose of that iCloud storage, operating under Apple's own terms rather than an instruction relationship we control day-to-day.

Apple's infrastructure may store or process data outside the country where you live. Where this involves a transfer out of the EEA, Apple self-certifies under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework as its transfer mechanism; see Apple's own privacy documentation for details. We never receive, store, or have visibility into that data ourselves, and no transfer to us personally occurs.

6. Family Sharing and shared access

If you share your dog's profile with another household member using Apple's CKShare mechanism, the information you share (session history, progress, the dog's profile) becomes visible to the people you invite, exactly as it would with any other document you choose to share via iCloud. You control who has access, and you can revoke it at any time from within the App or your iCloud sharing settings.

7. Security

There is no Settlepaw server or database to breach, which removes an entire category of risk other apps carry. What security exists is provided by: Apple's encryption of data at rest and in transit through iCloud and CloudKit, iOS's on-device data protection, and your own device passcode/biometric lock. We do not layer additional infrastructure on top of Apple's, and we do not maintain a separate copy of your data that could be independently compromised.

8. Legal basis for processing (GDPR / EEA users)

Where the GDPR applies to you, we process onboarding and session data on the basis of contractual necessity (it is what makes the App function) and, for microphone access, on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by disabling microphone permission in iOS Settings.

9. How long we keep data

We don’t keep any of it ourselves — there is no Settlepaw database. Data persists in your own iCloud account for as long as you keep it there. You can delete a dog’s profile and all associated sessions from within the App, or remove Settlepaw’s data from iCloud entirely via iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

10. Your rights

If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, and to object to our processing of it. Because your data lives in your own iCloud account rather than on a server we control, you can exercise most of these rights directly, at any time, through the App or your iOS/iCloud settings. For anything you can't do yourself, contact us at [support email address]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet), datatilsynet.no.

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from California consumers beyond what is described in this policy.

11. Children

Settlepaw is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and, for U.S. users, we comply with COPPA and do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at [support email address] and we will address it.

12. Not veterinary or medical advice

Settlepaw supports an evidence-based behavioral training protocol. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure any condition, and nothing in the App is a substitute for veterinary or professional advice. If your dog needs medical attention, consult a veterinarian.

13. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, note it in the App.
